Dr Jeremy Kaufman opened his private,
children's only, London practice, Mr Dentist
Children's Practice, in January 2001 and
it's since gone from strength-to-strength.
So much so that he now has too much
work for just one person, and recently
expanded the practice with the addition
of a second chair.
To help with this expansion, Dr Kaufman
enlisted the help of Henry Schein Minerva who
provided a full service, including surgery layout,
design, planning and installation of the new
Anthos R7 Treatment Centre alongside the
fitting of a new decontamination room.
Dr Kaufman chose to purchase the Anthos R7
Treatment Centre from Henry Schein Minerva
because of his long-standing relationship with
the company. He was also really impressed
with the personalised service his Field Sales
Consultant, Daniel Payne provided, as he was
able to deliver "exactly" what Dr Kaufman
Dr Kaufman explains:
"My relationship with Henry Schein Minerva
began over 12 years ago when their
Henry Schein Cares division partnered
with the Alpha Omega International
Dental Fraternity on a variety of different
programmes. An avid supporter of this
association, it was refreshing to see a
dental dealer assist in enhancing access
to oral health care for under-served
communities around the world. From this
introduction, they were soon helping me
fit my first surgery and the rest is history!"
Over a decade later and my Henry Schein
Minerva field sales consultant was still offering
the same level of service I received 12 years
ago. I did approach other suppliers, but, after
I would tell them what I wanted, they would
disregard this and design what they wanted.
However, Daniel really listened to me and
actually designed the surgery the way I
wanted it. He was the first person to take into
account what I needed and that's why Henry
Schein Minerva are so different, and why I am
delighted with the final result.
At first glance, the surgery looks just like any
other surgery. However, it is slightly narrower in
comparison to conventional surgeries and,
because our main clientele is children, certain
equipment is needed and not needed - all of
which could be considered as obstacles.
Daniel, however, successfully took all of this
into account and following a lot of meetings,
and, as a result, the expansion went well.
Although I was spoilt for choice with an array of
dental chairs on the market, I knew exactly
what I wanted. I wanted a screen included
in my treatment centre, important when
communicating with patients; a chair that was
not too wide, otherwise I wouldn't have the
space to walk around when treating patients;
and, of course, I wanted the 'wow factor'.
Us dentists all have our small little things
we like, and after you've worked in enough
surgeries, you can probably adapt to anything,
but it's nice to have what you want.
Although in my first surgery I currently have a
treatment centre, it was the Anthos R7 that
provided everything I wanted and I found it
to be better suited to paediatric patients.
What's even better is that it was available in the
colour I wanted!
" I originally saw the Anthos R7 at Henry Schein
Minerva's showroom in London, which is very
accessible for me. I had been around all the
dental shows where I'd looked at more than
one chair. But, at the Henry Schein Minerva
showroom, it was great that I could see the
Anthos R7 in practice, and it looked great."
I had a rough idea of how much I wanted to
spend - so the more expensive or cheaper
dental chairs, I didn't look at. I was looking for
what would be good for me and comfortable
for the patient, which is always at the forefront
of my mind when purchasing equipment.
For example, when it came to buying my cabinets,
some of the Italian products were fantastic,
but there was too much glass and that can't
work with children.
Child-friendly equipment is very important and
what I really like about the Anthos R7 is that
when you put the chair down, there is no gap
between the seat and back rest, so a patient
can't fall through. The other good thing is that
it is very unlikely that a child can get their hands
caught anywhere, so it's safer and child-friendly.
The included spittoon is good too, and modern,
because it's relatively low down, making it
more accessible. Nobody else manufactures
a specific children's dental chair that appealed
to me, but the Anthos R7 did.
The Anthos R7 comes with a booster, which
is great for the children; it has a variety of
settings; looks modern, is flashier (when
compared with other treatment centres); more
streamlined; and, in my opinion, looks more
fashionable. It's also great that it comes with a
screen as standard. I also believe the Anthos
R7 will stand the test of time; I won't look back
in five years time and think it's out of fashion,
and feel I have to replace it.
The people who have been in the surgery
really love it, they actually say 'wow!' and
think it's flashy - it features an intra-oral
camera, which the children find really
impressive and I have to admit it's also my
favourite feature. What's more they find the
chair extremely comfortable to sit in, and
like the fact there is a screen to see the
inside of their mouth, or watch children's
programmes. Another bonus is that, when
it's in operation, it's relatively quiet (very
Looking back, the best thing of the whole
process was that I was able to work with
my project manager and we were able to
make decisions together. The most important
thing is planning because; once you've planned
it and agreed you can move forward.
"The complete full-service offering I received
from Daniel and Henry Schein Minerva was
really good. Fortunately, Daniel was really
approachable, so everything just seemed to
"work" and if anything needed immediate
attention, I was always able to speak to someone
and it would be sorted quickly. And ultimately,
if my patients are happy, I'm happy. So this is
definitely one long-term relationship that won't
be coming to an end any time soon!"
